IAEA, Belenergo discuss NPP support system in Minsk

MINSK, 8 October (BelTA) – A seminar on the role of the Belarusian national electric company Belenergo as a technical support provider of the Belarusian nuclear power plant (NPP) was held in Minsk on 1-4 October. During the seminar, experts of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) presented models of creating a support system for an NPP, BelTA learned from Belenergo.

The international experts who visited Belenergo included representatives of the countries with the experience in operating nuclear power plants: Armenia, Hungary, and Bulgaria.

The specialists discussed training of the NPP staff, maintenance, repair, and replacement of equipment at the plant, a system to monitor the NPP performance indicators, documents on prevention and response to emergencies and safety regulations for spent nuclear fuel and radioactive waste management.

The seminar also discussed specific NPP operation requirements.

The Belarusian NPP will become part of Belenergo on 1 January 2020. The decision has been made with a view to improving the efficiency of organizing the operation of the nuclear power plant and creating a single technological complex of the Belarusian power grid.
