MINSK, 25 October (BelTA) – The International Atomic Energy Agency's pre-OSART (Operational Safety Review Team) mission has started working at the Belarusian nuclear power plant site, the press service of the state enterprise Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant told BelTA.

In order to evaluate the fulfillment of the IAEA's previously issued recommendations and proposals concerning operational safety the experts will study the relevant materials and will visit various facilities and installations of the nuclear power plant.

The work will focus on 11 areas: leadership and management for safety, operations, maintenance, technical support, training and qualification, radiation protection, chemistry, operating experience feedback, accident management, emergency preparedness and response, and commissioning.

The head of the expert group Yuri Martynenko thanked the Belarusian side for cooperation before the mission began working. “We see this invitation as an indicator of adherence of your regulatory bodies and the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant to achieving the highest levels in all kinds of safety in the sphere of nuclear energy industry,” he said.
