IAEA experts to get familiar with Belarusian nuclear power plant’s training simulators

Experts of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will get familiar with how training procedures using simulators of the Belarusian nuclear power plant are organized, BelTA learned from the Information and Public Relations Department of the state enterprise Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant.

According to the source, a team of IAEA experts is visiting the Belarusian nuclear power plant. As part of the visit the experts will go on a tour of the construction site of the Belarusian nuclear power plant. They will be made familiar with how training is organized using the full-scale and analytical simulators in the education and training center of the nuclear power plant operating enterprise. The IAEA experts will also visit the nuclear power plant’s information center in the nearby town of Ostrovets.

The team includes top IAEA experts from Austria, Czechia, and Slovakia. The experts are supposed to present a review of strategies for handling radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel. The experts are expected to finish their work on 20 January.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant is a project to build a VVER-1200 type nuclear power plant 18km away from Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast. The BelNPP will have two power-generating units with the total output capacity of up to 2,400MW (2x1,200MW).
