A group of experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is expected to visit the Belarusian nuclear power plant (BelNPP) on 14-16 October, BelTA learnt from the BelNPP.

“The IAEA experts will get familiar with the progress made on the NPP construction site and hold a seminar with the company’s specialists on the issues regarding the commissioning of the station and the role of the operating organization in this process,” the company noted. The functions of the BelNPP operating organization are performed by the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant Company.

The event will be held as part the IAEA international technical assistance project on the development of human resources and infrastructure for the nuclear power program for 2014-2015.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant will have two power-generating units with the total capacity of up to 2,400MW (1,200MW each). The Russian design AES-2006 was chosen to build the power plant. The design is fully compliant with international standards and IAEA recommendations. The Russian public joint-stock company OAO NIAEP – ZAO Atomstroyexport is the general designer and the general contractor for building the power plant.
