IAEA mission to evaluate Belarusian nuclear power plant construction site in December

15.09.2016
A Site and External Events Design (SEED) mission of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is expected to arrive in December 2016 to evaluate the construction site of the Belarusian nuclear power plant, BelTA learned from Belarusian Deputy Energy Minister Mikhail Mikhadyuk after the second round of Belarusian-Lithuanian consultations about the Belarusian nuclear power plant on 14 September.

Mikhail Mikhadyuk said: “Preliminary information we have received indicates that the mission is supposed to take place in December 2016.” Specific dates will be revealed later taking into account the busyness of the IAEA experts and their work schedules.

IAEA experts worked in Belarus in July 2016 to prepare the Belarusian nuclear power plant construction site for the SEED mission. The sides were supposed to come up with the technical specifications for the SEED mission as a result of that work.

Mikhail Mikhadyuk underlined that safety is at the forefront of Belarus’ efforts to build the nuclear power plant. “We do everything for it. The competence of the regulating body, the customer, and the general contractor is sufficient for building a safe nuclear power plant,” he noted.
