Lukashenko: Our NPP is a new image of the Belarusian nation

Our own nuclear power plant (NPP) is a new image of the Belarusian nation, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said as he met with the personnel of the BelNPP construction site on 9 October, BelTA has learned.
According to Alexander Lukashenko, there is no doubt today that Belarus has made the right decision to start building its own nuclear power plant. “There should be a nuclear power plant in Belarus as it means cheap electricity, new technologies, and a new image of the Belarusian nation,” the President said. “Building such a powerful enterprise is the right thing,” he is convinced.
“We should build the NPP within a reasonable period of time without delays, should spend a reasonable amount of money to build a safe power plant,” Alexander Lukashenko noted. A corresponding agreement has been reached with the Russian side.
If the nation wants to develop, it needs o move forward implementing new projects, the head of state said. The construction of the Belarusian NPP helps make progress in many areas, he believes.
The head of state stressed that the so-called post-Chernobyl syndrome still exists in Belarus. For example, some people think that the growing number of cancer patients is connected with the Chernobyl accident. “To raise efficiency in this field, we are doing our best to improve the healthcare sector although we are not lagging behind other countries,” Alexander Lukashenko noted. In particular, the National Positron Emission Tomography Center for the early diagnostics of oncological diseases was opened at the National Oncology and Medical Radiology Center a few days ago.
