MINSK, 20 December (BelTA) – There has not been any dangerous situation at the Belarusian nuclear power plant (BelNPP), Belarus' Energy Minister Viktor Karankevich told reporters at the BelTA press center commenting on a Bloomberg publication.
“There has not been any dangerous situation. Our main priority is safety and reliability. The head of state's task to maintain safety at the BelNPP is being fulfilled. Two power units are in operation, they generate electricity for the country's needs, help save natural gas, reduce emissions,” said Viktor Karankevich.
He noted that during the commissioning works at the first and second units, the main task was to make sure that the operation of equipment and technological systems reached the design capacity or guaranteed parameters. “To achieve these parameters, several programs were implemented in stages. It was necessary to go through the stages of physical and power start-up, pilot operation, and only after that comes comprehensive testing. Several hundred tests are carried out at all stages to ensure the reliability and safety and to check the operating parameters of equipment, technological systems. If questions arise, additional time is needed to do the works. All these works have been completed,” the minister emphasized.
