More applications for electricity thanks to Belarusian nuclear power plant

There are plans to find more applications for electricity in Belarus after the nuclear power plant goes online. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko made the statement during his working visit to Gomel Oblast on 25 September, BelTA has learned.
The head of state noted that at present Belarus has to import some of the electricity the country needs or burn expensive natural gas to generate electricity. At the same time after the Belarusian nuclear power plant goes online several years down the road, the country will have an excessive amount of electricity that needs to be used somehow.
“This is why I’ve instructed the government to find ways to use up the electricity. It means we are going to develop this direction in the country by replacing gas stoves with electric ones for cooking and by using more electric cars. We have the experience,” said the President.
Alexander Lukashenko did not rule out the possibility that prices for electricity will be reduced in some cases to encourage wider use of electricity in Belarusian homes.
