Multi-D technology to keep down Belarusian nuclear station cost

13.06.2013
The application of the Multi-D technology will allow keeping the construction cost of the Belarusian nuclear power plant within the estimated cost. The statement was made by Senior Vice President for Project Management of OAO NIAEP Alexander Polushkin at the international science to practice Multi-D forum Life Cycle Management of Complex Engineering Facilities. Tools for Operation Support in Moscow on 13 June, BelTA has learned.

Alexander Polushkin underlined that it was the most modest and cautious estimate. In his words, complex engineering installations often grow more expensive during their construction, because additional services, technologies, and equipment get involved over the rather long construction period. However, the application of the Multi-D technology allows testing all the novelties and changes on the digital model and choosing the optimal technical and cost solutions.

“It is a matter of honor for us to make all these technologies, the most modern ones, which are represented here at the forum, to be applied in Belarus,” said the OAO NIAEP representative. At present OAO NIAEP, which is the principal designer and the general contractor, has to take care of the organizational matters involved in the interaction with Saint Petersburg Atomenergoproject, which design has been chosen for implementation in Belarus. OAO Saint Petersburg Research and Design Institute Atomenergoproject (SPbAEP) is the author of the design while OAO NIAEP is responsible for the project and the construction on the whole. The two sides will have to properly synchronize all the works and information streams. “I am convinced that we will be able to do it and the latest management technologies based on the digital model, I mean Multi-D, will be applied at your station in full,” explained Alexander Polushkin.

The use of the Multi-D technology for building the Belarusian nuclear power plant will directly influence the construction time, quality, and costs thanks to the more effective, automated, and visible management of resources. The technology will also increase the speed, quality, and objectiveness of control through all the stages of the nuclear power plant’s lifecycle.

Using Multi-D gives a competitive advantage to the engineering company and the countries, which are building nuclear power plants. Without the technology it would be impossible to participate in a tender for building a nuclear power plant, for instance, in Czechia and China, said Alexander Polushkin. “We are taking part in the tender for the nuclear power plant Temelin in Czechia. Over there the application of this technology is mandatory for taking part in the tender, they just won’t talk to other companies, which don’t have the technology,” said the OAO NIAEP representative.

The united company OAO NIAEP – ZAO Atomstroyexport is part of the state corporation Rosatom and is the general designer of the Belarusian nuclear power plant and the general contractor responsible for building the facility. The company is now busy building and designing over 20 power-generating units in Russia and abroad.
