Up to 8,300 people will be working on the construction site of the future Belarusian nuclear power plant (BelNPP) by the end of 2017, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Energy Ministry.
“The number of workers on the construction site of the Belarusian nuclear power plant will make up 8,300 people by the end of 2017,” the press service said. At the end of 2016 there were 5,002 workers at the site.
Building and assembling works are in full swing at 119 out of 131 facilities of the two power-generating units of the plant. According to the press service, Belarusian companies take an active part in the construction of the nuclear power plant, making 24 out of 34 contracting organizations. The other ten are specialized organizations from Russia.
The Energy Ministry also provided plans on the construction of housing for the builders and specialists of the nuclear power plant. In 2017 six houses with the gross residential area of 13,200 square meters will be built in Ostrovets.
The Belarusian nuclear power plant is a project to build a VVER-1200 type nuclear power plant 18km away from Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast. The BelNPP will have two power-generating units with the total output capacity of up to 2,400MW (2x1,200MW). The first power-generating unit is scheduled for commissioning in 2018. The second one is to go online in 2020.
