MINSK, 10 March (BelTA) – Belarus has demonstrated the most thorough approach to the safety of the Belarusian nuclear power plant. Boris Martsinkevich, an energy industry worker, chairman of the social support foundation Avrora, shared the opinion with the On Point project in BelTA's YouTube channel.
Boris Martsinkevich said: “As far as the safety of the Belarusian nuclear power plant is concerned, I have yet to encounter a more thorough approach than Belarus'. Scientists of the [joint energy and nuclear research] institute Sosny travelled all over the world and checked all the designs available back then. It happened after the accident at the Fukushima nuclear power plant. It is no accident that a nuclear power plant design based on VVER-1200 reactors was chosen. Scientists of the Sosny institute travelled from Japan to England to check everything and then put the result of their studies on the table of Aleksandr Grigoryevich [Lukashenko].”
The energy industry expert noted that results of the work of the first unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant indicate that demand for natural gas in Belarus had decreased.
