MINSK, 10 March (BelTA) – Belarus has demonstrated its unwavering commitment to achieving the highest level of safety at the Belarusian nuclear power plant (BelNPP), Boris Martsinkevich, a power engineer, chairman of the Avrora social support foundation, said in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA's YouTube channel.

“As for the safety of the Belarusian nuclear power plant, I have not seen a more determined effort to achieve the highest level of safety. Scientists from the Sosny Institute [Joint Institute for Power and Nuclear Research Sosny of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus] traveled all over the world and studied all projects that were available at that time. It was after the Fukushima-1 accident. And it was for a reason that they chose the design of nuclear power units based on the VVER-1200 reactor. Scientists from the Sosny Institute traveled from Japan to England and studied everything, after which they submitted their findings to Aleksandr Grigoryevich [Lukashenko],” said Boris Martsinkevich.

According to the power engineer, the launch of the first power unit of the BelNPP allowed reducing demand for natural gas in Belarus.
