OSTROVETS, 4 September (BelTA) – All the agencies and units, which took part in the exercise at premises of the Belarusian nuclear power plant on 4 September, accomplished their tasks well, BelTA learned from Belarusian Emergencies Minister Vadim Sinyavsky.

A tactical exercise focusing on nuclear and radiation safety of the population took place in Ostrovets and the district on 4 September. As part of the exercise special vehicles of the Emergencies Ministry and the Internal Affairs Ministry operated in the area accompanied by well-geared personnel. The public announcement system was used during the exercise. The evacuation of people from a populated locality was practiced.

Vadim Sinyavsky said: “During this stage of the exercise we practiced several important things, which we believe are crucial to the safety and protection of the local population and the population of the entire country.”

Personnel of the Belarusian nuclear power plant had to take steps as part of the exercise. The enterprise had to develop an internal emergency response plan in advance. Vadim Sinyavsky noted that the personnel had accomplished their tasks. “Besides, all the interested services and agencies also successfully accomplished the tasks they had been assigned,” he stressed.

Vadim Sinyavsky added that an external protection plan was also practiced during the exercise. “The most important thing is to notify our population if a life-threatening emergency happens. All of it was done in a qualified and responsible manner. We saw no problems,” he assured.

A lot of attention was also paid to the evacuation of the population and interaction with municipal authorities and law enforcement agencies. The emergencies minister gave a positive evaluation to this stage and said he believes that the municipal authorities and the law enforcement agencies had also done their jobs well.
