Preparations to install reactor pressure vessel at Belarusian nuclear power plant construction site
24.02.2017
Preparations are in progress for installing the reactor pressure vessel of the first power-generating unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant, BelTA learned from Belarusian Deputy Energy Minister Mikhail Mikhadyuk on 24 February.
The reactor pressure vessel was delivered to Ostrovets in late 2016. “The piece of equipment went through incoming inspection without any remarks. Preparatory work is now in progress to install the reactor vessel as part of the first power-generating unit,” said Mikhail Mikhadyuk.
In his words, the primary equipment the first power-generating unit will need has already been delivered to Ostrovets. The rest is coming on schedule. The equipment’s quality is checked when and where the equipment is made and when the equipment is delivered to Ostrovets. About 5,000 people are now working at the construction site. Work is in progress at all the main facilities of the nuclear power plant.
The Belarusian nuclear power plant is built using the AES-2006 nuclear power plant design that features VVER-1200 type reactors. The construction site is located 18km away from Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast. The power plant will have two power-generating units with the total output capacity of up to 2,400MW (2x1,200MW). The first unit is scheduled for commissioning in 2019, with the second one to go online in 2020.
