MINSK, 5 April (BelTA) – The Nuclear and Radiation Safety Department of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry (Gosatomnadzor) has granted the permit to begin the reactor power startup stage as part of the process to commission the second unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant, BelTA learned from the Engineering Division of the Russian state corporation Rosatom.
The permit allows gradually increasing the output of the reactor unit up to 40% of the rated output.
According to Vitaly Polyanin, supervisor of the Belarusian nuclear power plant construction project and Vice President of ASE Company, the permit confirms that all the neutron physics parameters of the reactor unit of the nuclear power plant's second unit match the design parameters and the reactor's control systems and neutron output control systems operate effectively and reliably. Once the reactor reaches 40% of the rated output, specialists will perform a trial run of the turbine unit and a no-load test with consequent linkup to the national power grid and transmission of electricity to the power grid.
