Replacement reactor vessel prepped for installation at Belarusian nuclear power plant site

20.01.2017
The replacement reactor pressure vessel has been delivered and is getting prepared for installation. It is up to the general contractor — Rosatom — to decide on the fate of the compromised reactor pressure vessel, BelTA learned from Belarusian Deputy Energy Minister Mikhail Mikhadyuk on 20 January.

The official said that the replacement vessel had been delivered to the construction site of the Belarusian nuclear power plant. The general contractor has prepared the technical solution for using the vessel as part of the first power-generating unit. The solution has been approved by the general designer and all the interested organizations.

In line with the established procedure the delivered reactor pressure vessel will undergo an incoming inspection. After that the general contractor will begin installing it. Preparations for the installation operation are already afoot.

Speaking about what will happen to the reactor pressure vessel, which suffered an accident in 2016, Mikhail Mikhadyuk noted: “The general contractor is taking care of the matter.”

The Belarusian nuclear power plant is a project to build a VVER-1200 type nuclear power plant 18km away from Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast. The BelNPP will have two power-generating units with the total output capacity of up to 2,400MW (2x1,200MW).
