Russian company to get RUB643m in 2014 as part of Belarusian nuclear station construction contract

In 2014 the Russian company OAO NIAEP will get RUB643 million for services rendered as part of the management of the construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant, including engineering services, BelTA has learned.

In March 2011 Belarus and Russia signed an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in building the nuclear power plant. In October 2011 Belarus and Russia signed the contract agreement on building the nuclear power plant. In November 2012 the sides signed an intergovernmental agreement on allocating a Russian state export loan to the tune of up to $10 billion for Belarus. In January 2012 the first package of top-priority agreements and contracts required for building the nuclear power plant was signed.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant is being built near the town of Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast and will have two power-generating units with the total output capacity of up to 2,400MW (1,200MW each). The AES-2006 design has been chosen for building the power plant. The design is fully compliant with international norms and IAEA recommendations. The Russian merged company OAO NIAEP – ZAO ASE is the general designer and the general contractor of the project.

The construction of the first unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant is expected to be completed in 2017. The second unit is scheduled for commissioning in 2019.

OAO NIAEP is part of the Russian state corporation Rosatom. The company takes care of designing and building nuclear power plants and power-generating units on a turn-key basis. The company takes care of such projects as the nuclear power plant Bushehr in Iran, the first and second phase of the nuclear power plant Kudankulam in India, the Belarusian nuclear power plant, the nuclear power plant Akkuyu in Turkey, the nuclear power plant Tianwan in China, the Vietnamese nuclear power plant Ninh Thuan and other ones. In 2012 OAO NIAEP was merged with ZAO Atomstroyexport (ASE), which acts as the general contractor for building nuclear power plants abroad. OAO NIAEP is the managing company of ZAO Atomstroyexport.
