MINSK, 25 September (BelTA) – The testing of safety systems of the primary circuit of the second unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant has begun, the press service of the engineering division of the Russian state nuclear industry corporation Rosatom told BelTA.
The working capacity of the pump systems of the safety systems will be tested first in order to confirm their performance parameters. Then the specialists will start testing all the active systems that enable the operation of the primary circuit of the reactor unit.
The testing of safety systems is a strictly regulated technological process that begins startup and adjustment operations in the reactor compartment of the power-generating unit.
The Belarusian nuclear power plant is being built near Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast using the Russian design AES-2006 featuring two VVER-1200 reactors with the total output capacity of 2,400MW. The Russian state nuclear industry corporation Rosatom is the general contractor. The reactor power startup of the first unit is scheduled for 7 November 2020. The second unit is supposed to be commissioned in 2022.
