Ukrainian enterprise makes equipment for Belarusian nuclear power plant

14.08.2015
MINSK, 13 August (BelTA) – Based in the Ukrainian city of Sumy, the R&D group Sumy Frunze NPO has made equipment that will be used as part of the first and second power-generating units of the Belarusian nuclear power plant, representatives of the Ukrainian company told BelTA.

In line with the contract signed in 2014 the Sumy-based mechanical engineering enterprise has designed and produced on a step-by-step basis 20 containers, which capacity varies from 0.09m3 to 16m3. Work on the last two units of equipment is nearing completion. Once the equipment is accepted by representatives of the customer, it will be shipped to the construction site near the Belarusian town of Ostrovets.

Apart from that, the Ukrainian company is busy making a series of powerful condenser pumps. Six of them will be delivered to the Belarusian nuclear power plant this year. The next batch is scheduled for delivery in early 2017.

The manufacturing of four ventilator units — two for each of the power-generating units of the Belarusian nuclear power plant — continues.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant is a project to build an AES-2006 type nuclear power plant 18km away from Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast. The Belarusian nuclear power plant will have two power-generating units with the total output capacity of up to 2,400MW (2x1,200MW). In line with the general contract for building the nuclear power plant the first power-generating unit is scheduled for commissioning in 2018, with the second one to go online in 2020.
