Belarusian-Russian student summer work brigade will be working on the construction site of the Belarusian nuclear power plant in Ostrovets next year, Second Secretary of the Central Committee of the BRSM Youth Union Andrei Belyakov told BelTA.
He recalled that the Belarusian President issued the decree to award the status of the All-Belarus youth construction project to Belarus’ NPP. The Belarusian-Russian student work brigade named after Hero of the Soviet Union Igor Lebedev took part in the construction already this summer. The brigade comprised students from the Brest, Gomel, Mogilev, Vitebsk, Grodno and Minsk oblasts, the city of Minsk, and Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod and Obninsk. Andrei Belyakov stressed that these were only the straight-A students, all of whom had some skills in a construction profession.
Andrei Belyakov attended the roundtable on the development of student work brigades in the Belarus-Russia Union State organized by the Union State Permanent Committee in Moscow on 26 November. It summarized the results of the performance of student work brigades in 2014.
Andrei Belyakov said that the student work movement becomes ever wider in Belarus every year. This year the student work brigades and volunteer teams included more than 130,000 people. A Belarusian-Russian student work brigade was set up two years ago. Now it has 2,000 members. “Student work movement gives students an opportunity to not only earn money but travel and see other places,” said Andrei Belyakov. This year the Belarusian young people worked on youth projects in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Sochi, and the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District.
