Over 200 university students will be employed as workers for building installations of the Belarusian nuclear power plant this year, said Andrei Belyakov, Second Secretary of the Central Committee of the public association Belarusian Republican Youth Union, during the conference hosted by BelTA’s website on 10 June.
Andrei Belyakov said that contracts had been signed with 210 students, including 160 students from Belarus and 50 students from Russia.
According to the source, more than one thousand students had applied for the right to be part of the student construction team that will work at the construction site of the Belarusian nuclear power plant. The selection committee favored those with experience of working as part of student work teams, those who excel at their studies and take an active part in public life. Those, who have been turned down, will be able to work at other construction sites this year or at the Belarusian nuclear power plant construction site next year, he added.
The students who will work at the construction site of the Belarusian nuclear power plant will perform various operations. As a rule, they will need certain skills primarily welding, concrete operations, and steel fixing, explained Andrei Belyakov.
“As far as salaries are concerned, we are trying to get at least $1,000 for student workers. Last year the guys earned well but they had to work 1.5-2 months. This year they say they are ready to work two months and more. They are interested in working and earning well,” noted Andrei Belyakov.
The construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant has been declared an All-Belarusian youth construction project in line with the relevant presidential decree signed on 10 March 2014. The declaration is supposed to popularize and advance student work movement, unite young Belarusians through an important civil and patriotic idea, encourage young people to work on the country’s most important construction projects.
Last year the Belarusian-Russian student work team that worked at the construction site of the Belarusian nuclear power plant included 60 people. They performed wiring jobs, concrete operations, painting, plastering, earthmoving. Apart from that, the students were employed to do masonry, the dismantling of construction structures, sidewalk pavement, and waterproofing.
