Volgodonsk enterprise to supply eight steam generators for Belarusian nuclear plant

26.12.2013
The Volgodonsk-based branch of AEM Technologies, part of Atomenergomash (the machine building division of Rosatom State Corporation), will produce eight PGV 1000M steam generators for units No.1 and No.2 of the Belarusian nuclear power station that is currently under construction, BelTA has learnt from the enterprise.

“The Volgodonsk-based enterprise will produce steam generators, collectors, supporting structures, kits of spare parts, and other products. The equipment for unit No.1 of the nuclear power plant in Ostrovets will be shipped to the construction site in 2016, and for unit No.2 - in 2017,” said AEM Technologies Director General Yevgeny Pakermanov. He specified that steam generators are first-class safety pieces of equipment.

The shell of a steam generator is a horizontal cylindrical vessel with two elliptic end plates. Energomashspetsstal (EMSS, Ukraine) is the main supplier of the intermediate products used to make the steam generators. The enterprise will supply intermediate shell rings, end plates, and branch pipes for steam generators, and semi-finished products for collectors. On the completion of some technological operations, the supplied pieces of equipment will be assembled into one machine and fitted with 11,000 heat-transfer tubes.

The equipment will be tested with the help of the modern eddy current testing system that was acquired by the enterprise in October 2013.

Earlier AEM Technologies signed contracts for the production of reactor equipment and core catchers for the Belarusian nuclear plant. The first intermediate products for the reactor shell of unit No.1 have been produced by EMSS and supplied to the Volgodonsk enterprise in December 2013.

Construction workers started pouring concrete into the foundation of facilities that will make up the first power-generating unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant at the Ostrovets site in November 2013. The Belarusian nuclear power plant will boast two power-generating units with the total capacity of up to 2,400MW (1,200MW each). The Russian design AES-2006 has been chosen to build the power plant. The design is fully compliant with international standards and IAEA recommendations. The Russian public joint-stock company OAO NIAEP – ZAO Atomstroyexport is the general designer and the general contractor for building the power plant. The timeline for implementing the project is stipulated by the general contract. The first power-generating unit of the nuclear power plant is scheduled for launch in November 2018.

ZAO AEM Technologies was founded in 2007 as part of OAO Atomenergomash. The daughter enterprise operates the head engineering office of AEM Technologies in Saint Petersburg, OAO Petrozavodskmash, and the branch in Volgodonsk. The product choice now includes equipment for the nuclear industry, heat power engineering, gas, oil, and chemical industries.

OAO Atomenergomash operates over 30 large manufacturing, engineering, and science and research enterprises in Russia and other countries.
