WANO's technical expert mission visits Belarusian nuclear power plant

MINSK, 20 November (BelTA) – Experts of the Moscow center of the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) visited the Belarusian nuclear power plant on 16-20 November in order to provide technical support in studying the international experience in the area of development of leadership qualities of nuclear plant operators, the Information and Public Relations Department of the state enterprise Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant told BelTA.

WANO representatives visited the control room and the turbine house of the first unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant. They arranged classes for heads of structural divisions of the enterprise to cover such topics as leadership from the point of view of safety and reliability, ways to nurture leadership qualities in managers, and the practice of inspiring leadership at nuclear industry enterprises.

Director of WANO's Moscow center Vasily Aksenov interviewed heads of the main departments of the Belarusian nuclear power plant and mentioned that the department heads are well-trained in the area “Leadership and high safety culture standards”.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant is being built near Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast using the Russian design AES-2006 featuring two VVER-1200 reactors with the total output capacity of 2,400MW. The engineering division of the Russian state nuclear industry corporation Rosatom is the general contractor.
