Belenergo comments on timeline to launch second unit of BelNPP
"Work to commission the second unit involves the following stages: pre-commissioning, physical launch, reactor power startup, and trial operation. We are in the middles of the physical launch. Nuclear fuel has been loaded into the reactor of the second unit. Then we will seal the reactor and carry out necessary hydraulic tests, hot trials and bring the reactor to the minimum controllable power level," Sergei Bobovich said.

Loading of nuclear fuel into second unit of Belarusian nuclear power plant complete
"On 27 December 2021, the Belarusian nuclear power plant completed loading nuclear fuel into the reactor core of the second power. 163 fuel assemblies with fresh nuclear fuel have been put into the reactor core," the press service said.

About $250m saved by Belarusian nuclear power plant's first unit so far
Since the first unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant was connected to the power grid and till the end of 2021, the unit generated 6 billion kWh of electricity. Once both units of the Belarusian nuclear power plant are operational, the country will be able to substitute about 4.5 billion m3 of natural gas per annum.

Second unit of Belarusian nuclear power plant to be commissioned by summer 2022
“We are proceeding on schedule and intend to commission the second unit by next summer,” the prime minister said. “Thus, the Belarusian nuclear power plant will reach the rated output and will generate about 40% of the country's total electricity.”

Belarus, Russia working out agreement on spent nuclear fuel management
“Together with Russian colleagues we are working out an intergovernmental agreement on managing spent nuclear fuel of the Belarusian nuclear power plant. The document is supposed to be prepared for signing by 1 July 2022,” Viktor Karankevich said.

Readiness of second unit of Belarusian nuclear power plant at 95%
Viktor Karankevich said that every day the Belarusian nuclear power plant generates about 28 million kWh of electricity or 22% of the total amount of electricity generated in Belarus. Since the first unit was connected to the power grid, the nuclear power plant has generated 5.7 billion kWh of electricity.

WANO's peer review at Belarusian nuclear power plant over
The WANO MC team included representatives of the Russian Federation and Ukraine. The purpose of the prelaunch peer review was to evaluate the readiness of the second unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant for safe and reliable launch and consequent operation.

IAEA experts visit Belarusian nuclear power plant
The IAEA experts are in Belarus as part of a follow-up mission of the International Atomic Energy Agency's Integrated Regulatory Review Service (IRRS). The experts visited the Belarusian nuclear power plant while accompanied by employees of the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Department of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry.
