The First Deputy Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Minister reminded that during the second round of the Belarusian-Lithuanian consultations Belarus once again suggested setting up a joint group to monitor the environmental situation around the nuclear power plant.

When asked on the choice of the site for the future plant, Iya Malkina explained that Belarus conducted the environmental impact assessment analysis of three sites. “This was enough to fulfill the requirements of the Espoo Convention,” she said.

Lithuania sees progress in negotiations on Belarusian nuclear power plant

The official said: “Some matters have yet to be discussed, but we see small progress. The Belarusian side has invited the IAEA’s SEED mission to evaluate the construction site. Apart from that, the Ostrovets site will be subjected to stress tests.”
