Belarusian Communications Ministry seeking ways to profit from Skype, Viber
“We have a workgroup and we will suggest some instruments to the government in order to monetize Skype, Viber services and other similar technologies to some extent,” said the Minister. According to the official, services like Skype and Viber operate on top of the network infrastructure created by telecoms and Beltelecom. “There are about 11 services of the kind in the world. They invest zero in the development of physical infrastructure. While such services get more and more popular, Russian and European experts estimate the natural decline the services cause at about 10-15%. We agree with them. Solutions to handle the problem vary from country to country. For instance, superfluous traffic can be monetized,” he stressed.

Minsk, oblast capitals to get LTE technology in 2015

“Today we have discussed traditional cooperation avenues, like agriculture, pharmaceutics, manufacturing industry and many other sectors. We believe that we have brilliant cooperation prospects in a number of other fields, like digital economy and technologies. All in all, we have to admit that the bilateral trade (which was estimated at $534 million in 2014) falls behind our capacities and plans. New Russian cosmodrome to launch Belarusian educational satellite
The Vostochny cosmodrome was commissioned in 2015. “We will be ready to implement not only national programs but also programs of Belarus as a full-fledged space power with its own orbital constellation and ground-based facilities required to support the full range of space exploration operations,” explained Yuri Makarov.

Vice President of China Merchants Group Hu Zheng praised the location of the park and the approach to its organization. “The delegation of China Merchants Group studied the conditions and potential of the industrial park, including with regard to the development prospects of the Silk Road Economic Belt, and showed interest in carrying out a large-scale logistics project,” the Belarusian Economy Ministry said.

Belarusian scientists to produce electric engines for compact UAVs in 2015
“We are planning to use 75% of Belarusian-made parts to produce small unmanned aircraft complexes. We import only cameras, engines, batteries, and computers. In H1 2015 we are planning to design our own electric engines. By the end of the year we are going to launch the batch production of these engines,” Yuri Yatsyna said.

Belarus’ UAV technologies center set to sell $4m worth of drones in 2015
He believes that the production and export of such aircraft systems is a profitable business. “The production of such vehicles requires little energy and materials, but it is very science-intensive. One small drone features the best technologies. Only countries with high scientific and technological potential can manufacture them, and we have such potential,” Yury Yatsyna pointed out.
