Belarus' weather center, environmental monitoring center merged
According to the official, in accordance with the relevant decision of the Belarusian Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Ministry the national weather center was merged with the national center for radiation control and environmental monitoring as of 5 January 2015. The new agency is already operational.

Expert: A common innovation space is needed in the Eurasian Economic Union
It is necessary to create a common innovation space in the Eurasian Economic Union. The statement was made by Professor Irina Novikova, Doctor of Economics, Head of the Economic Theory Chair of the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Belarus, during an online briefing held on 31 December to discuss economic forecasts for 2015, BelTA has learned.

Belarus, IAEA launch joint project on radiotherapy quality audits
The project aims to study radiotherapy practices in these countries and offer recommendations on how to improve the quality of radiotherapy. This will allow unifying treatment protocols, identifying the needs of the counties in radiotherapy equipment and tools and determining the costs associated with the radiotherapy quality assurance. In the future the information can be used for technical cooperation with the IAEA. The findings of the study might be useful for other international organizations, like the WHO, UICC, ESTRO for ensuring adequate planning, facilitating cooperation and providing assistance taking into consideration the needs and priorities of each country.

ZTE, Huawei to start implementing projects in China-Belarus Industrial Park in 2015
The Chinese corporations ZTE and Huawei will start implementing projects in the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone in 2015, BelTA learned from Alexander Turchin, Deputy Chairman of the Minsk Oblast Executive Committee, at the session of the Committee held on 24 December to discuss the next year’s draft social and economic development forecast for Minsk Oblast.

EEU to launch common pharmaceutical market in 2016
The common market of pharmaceutical products and medical goods will become operational in the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) on 1 January 2016, Russian President Vladimir Putin said following the session of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council at the level of the heads of state on 23 December, BelTA has learned.

Vitebsk Oblast receives €200,000 for environmental improvement
Grants, €50,000 each, were allocated by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) to Braslav, Glubokoye, Polotsk and Chashniki Districts on 19 December. “The funds are provided in line with the international environmental project aimed at introducing Local Environmental Action Plans (LEAP). Partaking in the initiative are ten Belarusian and four Moldavian districts. Money will be used to develop green zones and upgrade the domestic waste management system,” the fund stressed.

Pediatric surgery center to open in Belarus in 2015
The National Research Center for Pediatric Surgery will open in Belarus in 2015. The decision was formalized by Council of Ministers’ Resolution No. 1211 passed on 20 December 2014, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian government.
