Air and soil samples taken near Belarus’ NPP
Representatives of Belarusian environmental organizations and the National Center for Radiation Control and Environmental Monitoring of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection examined a number of facilities located near the Belarusian nuclear power plant construction site in Ostrovets on 16 October, BelTA learnt from the Belarusian public association Environmental Initiative.

Belarus’ NPP construction to require redistribution of energy consumption
The construction and commissioning of the Belarusian nuclear power plant (NPP) will necessitate significant changes in the electric energy generation and consumption in Belarus, First Deputy Energy Minister of Belarus Leonid Shenets said at a plenary session of the 18th Belarusian Energy and Ecology Forum on 16 August, BelTA has learned.

Belarus, European Commission working on nuclear safety cooperation project
The Nuclear and Radiation Safety Department of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry and the European Commission are busy working out a new technical cooperation project. The project will be able to help the Belarusian ministry in nuclear and radiation safety matters, representatives of the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Department (Gosatomnadzor) told BelTA.

Presentation of Belarusian nuclear station construction project in Czech Brno
The presentation of the Russian company Rosatom’s project to build the nuclear power plant in Belarus will take place within the framework of the European nuclear industry suppliers forum Atomex Europe. The forum opened in the Czech city of Brno on 8 October, the press service of OOO Atomexpo (Russia) told BelTA.

Russian-made cooling towers for Belarusian nuclear power plant
The Belarusian nuclear power plant will use cooling towers of Russian design. The possibility of fitting them with aerodynamic vortex generators of Belarusian design is being considered, BelTA learned from Sergei Fisenko, Leading Researcher of the A.V. Lykov Heat and Mass Transfer Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, after the 16th international conference on cooling towers and heat-transfer equipment. The event took place in Minsk on 30 September – 2 October.

Belarus government approves nuclear station design documents
The Belarus government has approved the design documents of the Belarusian nuclear power plant. The decision is laid down by Council of Ministers resolution No. 857 of 30 September 2013, the press service of the Belarus government told BelTA.

Belarus prepares Nuclear Safety Convention implementation report
In line with requirements of the Convention states, which are parties to the Convention, regularly prepare national reports, which are in essence planned analysis reports. The regular national report on the fulfillment of international obligations by the Republic of Belarus has been prepared in association with specialists of authorized government agencies and organizations.

Belarus to borrow Ukrainian nuclear safety practices
Belarus will be able to use Ukraine’s experience in ensuring the safety in the nuclear power industry. The relevant provision is part of the agreement signed in Kyiv by the State Inspection for Nuclear Regulation of Ukraine and the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry. The agreement regulates cooperation in nuclear and radiation safety matters, representatives of the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Department of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry told BelTA.
