Belarusian nuclear power plant to host session of CIS atomic commission on 29 November
Representatives of the ministries of energy, natural resources and environmental protection, emergencies, academies of sciences, scientific institutions, regulatory bodies of the CIS states, and representatives of the Russian state nuclear industry corporation Rosatom will take part in the session.

Local fuels substitute about 3.1bn m3 of natural gas in Belarus per year
“Despite the successful commissioning of the second unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant local fuel and energy resources have not been discarded. Today we use them to substitute about 3.1 billion m3 of natural gas per annum,” Vitaly Kretsky noted.

“It is confirmed by the fact that the share of polluted lands stood at 25% at the time of the Chernobyl catastrophe but now it stands at 12.5%, including the Polesie State Radiation and Ecology Reserve. Considering the results, the work in this field is obvious,” Tatiana Kononchuk said.

Plans to step up radiation monitoring in Belarus
Tatiana Kononchuk said: “At present radiation is monitored at 120 observation points across Belarus. Apart from that, due to the construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant another ten automated background radiation monitoring systems have been deployed."
