EBRD loans for energy-effective homes in Belarus
So far the EBRD has financed only a project meant to improve the energy effectiveness of an office building in Belarus. The money was allocated via the Belarus Sustainable Energy Finance Facility (BelSEFF). At the same time the EBRD has financed housing energy effectiveness projects in other countries, including in Russia and Ukraine. “For the sake of implementing such a project we have to find companies that will be able to take out loans via our partner banks. For now there are no projects like that in Belarus but they may emerge in the future,” noted Vincent Duijnhouwer.

EBRD sponsors 47 energy efficiency projects worth $17.2m in Belarus
“The program has financed 47 projects so far. The total cost of them was $17.2 million. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development is satisfied with this result; but, of course, we see a big potential,” Vincent Duijnhouwer noted. The projects financed by BelSEFF include the ones to install equipment and produce energy using woodworking wastes, build solar power stations, etc.

EBRD to help Belarus improve renewable energy legislation
The EBRD implements Belarus Sustainable Energy Finance Facility (BelSEFF). According to Vincent Duijnhouwer, in line with this program the EBRD is ready to join efforts with the Belarusian government to improve legislation on the use of renewable energy sources. “Legislation is one of the components needed to implement our projects in this area,” he stressed.

Belarus interested in Finland’s experience of developing regulations for nuclear power plants
“Representatives of nuclear and radiation safety regulating agencies of Finland, Sweden and Norway visited Belarus in May. These countries have good regulatory systems. Apart from that, two of the countries — Finland and Sweden — operate nuclear power plants. We are interested in their experience. In particular, Finland boasts extensive experience of the development of regulatory documents and requirements,” explained the official.

Experts praise Belarus’ presentation of spent fuel, radioactive waste management report in IAEA
“The 5th Belarus National Report on the implementation of the Joint Convention on the Safety of Spent Fuel Management and on the Safety of Radioactive Waste Management was presented at the IAEA headquarters in Vienna. International experts were appointed, and they conducted the work of this meeting. Their task was to gather all the questions and all the information, which was voiced, analyzed and discussed and make their findings. The report on the situation in Belarus has positive connotations,” he said.

Gosatomnadzor hails discussion of Belarus National Report with Lithuania as constructive
According to the IAEA established procedure, in the course of the preparation for the meeting, national reports are subject to the peer review. A total of 69 questions were submitted in the course of the peer review of Belarus National Report. The greatest interest in the document was shown by Germany, Lithuania, the United States, Ukraine, France and South Africa.

Belenergo, Indian power engineering company sign memorandum of cooperation
The memorandum determines the main avenues of cooperation in power engineering that can be later built on and stipulated by relevant agreements. The bilateral document enables basic conditions for cooperation in the joint implementation of projects to build energy installations in third countries, including with assistance of Belenergo’s construction enterprises and design organizations.

Environmentalists from Novovoronezh ready to share experience in nuclear monitoring with Belarus
"Novovoronezh has a vast experience of monitoring the environment impact of the nuclear power plant. The natural background indicators in the relevant locality were recorded before the construction of the Novovoronezh nuclear power plant. Thus, the monitoring has been carried since 1962. We have reference data, and we are able to track the dynamics of any variations and deviations. During all these years, no negative changes in the climate, flora and fauna have been detected,” said Inna Kudryashova.
