Belarus to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 7-10m tonnes through use of nuclear energy
“According to experts of the UN Economic Commission for Europe, once the nuclear power plant is commissioned in Belarus, the amount of greenhouse gas emissions will start reducing by as much as 7-10 million tonnes per year starting from 2018. The latest data show that the emissions in the country amounted to 93 million tonnes,” Iya Malkina said.

IAEA assessment mission to visit Belarus in October 2016
One of the missions will assess the site selected for nuclear power plant construction. A separate mission will assess the security of the site just before the plant is commissioned.

Amano: Cooperation between Belarus and IAEA has been very intensive

Mr Yukiya Amano believes that the invitation of such missions means that Belarus cooperates with the international nuclear community. During these visits, the IAEA makes specific proposals, and, according to the head of the Agency, Belarus pays heed to them.

Alexander Lukashenko guaranteed that nuclear materials will be safely stored in Belarus. “We will do our best to ensure the absolute protection of these materials so that no one could even make an attempt to take possession of such nuclear materials for the sake of terrorism. You can be absolutely sure of our reliability,” the head of state said.
