Belarus ready to share nuclear power plant construction experience with Kazakhstan
Belarus is ready to share its experience of building a nuclear power plant with colleagues from Kazakhstan. The statement was made by Belarusian Deputy Energy Minister Mikhail Mikhadyuk during the press briefing held in BelTA’s press center on 27 August to discuss the safe development of nuclear power engineering and the non-proliferation regime as guarantees of the mankind’s future.

Mikhadyuk: BelNPP construction schedule unaffected by macroeconomic situation in Russia
"Indeed, the macroeconomic processes that we witnessed at the end of last year did affect the purchasing power of the Russian ruble. We addressed these issues in a prompt way, and adopted the appropriate measures, which allowed us to continue the construction of the nuclear plant in accordance with the schedule approved by the contract,” said Mikhail Mikhadyuk.

Second reactor vessel for Belarusian nuclear power plant in 2017
The executive said: “In line with the contract we will ship the reactor pressure vessel for the second power-generating unit in 2017. Work on the product is already in progress. All the components that make up the reactor unit have passed the key checks. The materials used to make the product have passed reception tests. A research has been carried out to confirm the highest quality of the materials. Shell rings of the connection pipe zone have passed the mechanical processing stage and the overlay welding phase.”

Russian Atommash to make steam generators for Belarusian nuclear power plant in 2016
The process of making a steam generator includes two phases: components of the shell are made and the so-called zero assembly is performed. The manufacturing process takes 590-600 days. Quality control is part of the process in addition to manufacturing operations, explained Vitaly Shishov.

Top-notch equipment for Belarusian nuclear power plant
Atommash makes reactor vessels and steam generators for the Belarusian nuclear power plant. According to Vitaly Shishov, the equipment has to go through several quality checks. It takes 22 months to make a reactor unit, doing all kinds of assembly, welding, thermal and mechanical processing operations. “If we consider the manufacturing cycle operations and the test cycle operations, the former account for roughly 40% of the total while the latter account for 60%,” explained Vitaly Shishov.

Russian Atommash to ship reactor vessel to Belarusian nuclear power plant in October
The process to manufacture the reactor vessel is in its final stage. One of the most important steps was completed when threaded holes were made in the vessel for the sake of installing double-end bolts for the main connector. The enterprise will ship the reactor vessel to Ostrovets in October, said Vitaly Shishov.

Environmental protection during BelNPP construction viewed as top priority
“The Belarusian Hydrometeorological Center is currently facing a serious task of ensuring environmental protection and nuclear safety during the construction of the BelNPP. We are monitoring the radiation environment and the background levels near the plant. This is what we have at this stage, when the construction of the BelNPP is not completed yet,” Maria Germenchuk explained.
