Ural Federal University to train specialists for BelNPP jointly with BNTU, BSUIR
The Ural Federal University (UFU) of Russia will train specialists for the Belarusian nuclear power plant (BelNPP) that is currently under construction according to the education programs developed jointly with the Belarusian National Technical University (BNTU) and the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics (BSUIR), BelTA learned from the press service of the Russian university.

Belarusian nuclear industry watchdog preparing for IAEA’s IRRS mission
According to the source, IRRS experts will stay in Belarus for several weeks to study regulatory aspects of the efforts meant to ensure radiation and nuclear security taking into account the construction of the nuclear power plant, including legislation, licensing procedures, oversight and many other things. Major preparations will precede the mission.

Tighter oversight over equipment production for Belarusian nuclear power plant
Speaking about the main areas of the Department’s work for 2015, Oleg Sobolev pointed out that the Department will closely monitor the fulfillment of the requirements of the license granted to the enterprise Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant for the time needed to build the two power-generating units. The next license the enterprise Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant will request from the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Department of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry will be the license to operate the first power-generating unit, specified the specialist.

Adequate radiation monitoring to be in place by BelNPP’s launch
“Now we are working on the radiation monitoring system for the area surrounding the nuclear power plant. By the time the NPP becomes operational, we will be able to ensure the adequate level of radiation control at the NPP in accordance with all the safety requirements,” she noted.

High Belarusian involvement in Belarusian nuclear station construction
The construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant remains the main area for exporting construction services in 2015, said the official. More construction companies have been invited to take part in the project. Some of them have already started working, noted Sergei Lastochkin. Besides, there are plans to involve Belarusian construction companies in the erection of the Polotsk hydropower plant and some other facilities as much as possible.

Belarusian members in Belarusian-Russian nuclear power plant committee approved
Belarus has approved the composition of the Belarusian part of the Belarusian-Russian committee that will coordinate the implementation of the Belarusian-Russian intergovernmental agreement of 15 March 2011 on cooperation in building a nuclear power plant in Belarus. The relevant decision is laid down by Council of Ministers executive order No. 7 of 8 January 2015, the press service of the Belarus government told BelTA.

License to build second unit of Belarusian nuclear station issued
In accordance with the established procedure the documents that justify the nuclear and radiation safety of the project had been examined. The documents include a preliminary report on safety justification, a probability analysis of the safety of the first tier and other ones. As part of the procedure the United Energy and Nuclear Research Institute Sosny of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus verified the completeness of safety justification of the second power-generating unit and the conformance of the justification documents with legal requirements of Belarus and Russia with regard to the use of nuclear energy, sources of ionizing radiation, and international recommendations.

Examination of documents on BelNPP second unit nearing completion
Gosatomnadzor is finishing the examination of documents substantiating the safety of the second power-generating unit of the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant (BelNPP), head of the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Department of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry (Gosatomnadzor) Olga Lugovskaya said at a briefing at the BelTA press center.

Gosatomnadzor reveals no major failures during inspection to BelNPP
“There were no major remarks and violations. There are no grounds or reasons to suspend the construction of the nuclear power plant or withdraw the license,” she noted. Olga Lugovskaya said that the remarks voiced during the inspection were accepted and the deadline for eliminating the failures was established. Olga Lugovskaya repeated that the remarks “were not critical or fundamental”.
