The construction of the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant (BelNPP) was discussed in a meeting between Belarus’ Deputy Energy Minister Mikhail Mikhadyuk and Director General of the Russian state nuclear industry corporation Rosatom Sergei Kiriyenko. The meeting took place as part of the 7th international forum Atomexpo 2015 in Moscow. Sergei Kiriyenko plans to visit the construction site of the nuclear power plant in Belarus, Mikhail Mikhadyuk told BelTA.

Belarusian nuclear power plant equipment made on schedule
“Our company is virtually done making the vessel of the first Belarusian reactor. Both the reactor and the steam generator are made exactly on schedule. The situation in Ukraine has in no way affected our work with Belarus or other contracts. Our company honors our commitments 100%,” stated Andrei Nikipelov.

New energy balance in development due to Belarusian nuclear power plant

No radiation impact on environment from BelNPP construction
In her words, the radiation environment at the construction site of the BelNPP is mainly determined by the presence of natural radionuclides and low leftover radioactive contamination from nuclear weapons tests in the 1950-60s. “Thus we can state that the radiation situation near the construction site of the BelNPP is stable, which is attested by the results of the radiation survey carried out between 2009 and 2014,” Olga Zhukova pointed out.
