University students from Belarus and Russia to work at NPP construction site next year
He recalled that the Belarusian President issued the decree to award the status of the All-Belarus youth construction project to Belarus’ NPP. The Belarusian-Russian student work brigade named after Hero of the Soviet Union Igor Lebedev took part in the construction already this summer. The brigade comprised students from the Brest, Gomel, Mogilev, Vitebsk, Grodno and Minsk oblasts, the city of Minsk, and Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod and Obninsk.

BelNPP construction site becomes tourist attraction
“The facilities of the nuclear power plant arouse great interest among people. Around 1,250 tourists have visited the construction site this year alone,” the specialists said. Among the tourists there were students, school children, teachers, and representatives of public organizations.

Cost of BelNPP project within $11bn
“The governments of Belarus and Russia concluded an agreement on providing a loan to build the BelNPP. The cost of the contract is preliminary. I can say that the cost of the Belarusian nuclear power plant will not exceed $11 billion,” the Deputy Director General said. Some 12.5% of the works have been performed and financed.

Another core catcher delivered to Belarusian nuclear station construction site
The source specified that the core catcher was delivered using water transport and automobile transport. The water part of the way involved the rivers Dnieper, Volga, Sheksna, Svir, and Volkhov. The route was about 3,000km long. A new route was worked out for the transition from water transport to automobile transport near the city of Veliky Novgorod. The new route was then authorized by Russian Railways, the city administration, the federal road services and motorway police. As a result, the large and heavy parts of the core catcher have been successfully delivered to the construction site of the Belarusian nuclear power plant, said Inna Vavulina.

Energy Ministry: More Russians and Ukrainians willing to work at Belarus’ NPP
“We receive many job applications from general workers and highly skilled specialists. These are mainly citizens of Russia or Ukraine. Each application is thoroughly considered,” Mikhail Mikhadyuk noted. He added that at the moment some key positions at the Belarusian NPP, such as chief engineer and workshop managers, are occupied by people with relevant education and experience of working at nuclear power plants.

Rosatom calls BelNPP a flagship project
In his words, some minor issues arise along the way, however all of them are resolved. “Most importantly, we are greatly satisfied with the cooperation with our Belarusian partners. Suffice it to say what we will achieve by the end of this year,” he underlined. Nikolai Spassky emphasized that the ground part of the BelNPP first power-generating unit has already reached 20 meters. According to Nikolai Spassky, “this is a great advancement”.

Hungarian Ganz EEM starts making equipment for Belarusian nuclear power plant
The Hungarian company will make eight heavy-duty circulating pumps for the nuclear power plant’s cooling system. The company will make a small-scale model at the start to confirm parameters of the future large-size pumps.

Belarus’ most powerful crane deployed at Belarusian nuclear station construction site
“A Liebherr 11350 hoisting crane with the lifting capacity of 1,350 tonnes has been installed at the construction site of the Belarusian nuclear power plant. The primary arm of the crane is 72m long while the auxiliary arm is 36m long,” said the source.

Gosatomnadzor keeps track of all BelNPP project milestones
To organize the supervision process on an ongoing basis, in July 2013 Gosatomnadzor created the bureau for nuclear and radiation safety of nuclear facilities, which includes the office for supervision of nuclear and radiation safety at the NPP construction site. In 2013-2014, the bureau hired seven young professionals. However, they do not get an immediate pass to work as independent inspectors: first they are placed in training under special programs to improve theoretical and practical knowledge and receive an internship on a very intense schedule.

Belarus meets safety requirements while building BelNPP
He noted that violations are detected during all comprehensive inspections. In particular, the specialists of the nuclear safety watchdog have revealed a number of violations related to waterproofing works, input checks of equipment, construction, concreting and installation of reinforcement works, installation and mounting of lifting equipment.
