Belarus, Russia improving drought and wildfire forecasting methods
In her words, Russia succeeds in remote sensing methods and satellite technologies. “Earlier we cooperated with Russia in testing satellite images, their decoding. Today we have expanded our cooperation designing new technologies together,” the specialist noted.

Belarus to start deploying Antarctic station in 2015
Preparations to send the seventh Belarusian Antarctic expedition are about to complete. The team will comprise five specialists. On 27 October four tonnes of expedition cargoes that included scientific observation instruments, communication means, and expedition gear was sent to Saint Petersburg where the research and expedition ship Akademik Fedorov will pick it up. The vessel will leave Saint Petersburg on 9 November. The Belarusian expedition team will leave Minsk one by one from 10 November through 2 December. “Our polar explorers will join the main body of the expedition along the course of the vessel,” noted Alexei Gaidashov.

Union State Monitoring SG program gets Br60bn in 2014
“A total of Br50.8 billion has been allocated for this year. We will find the use to this sum,” Sergei Korenyako said. In his words, the Union State space program Monitoring SG was approved in October 2013. Its first stage is currently underway.

Belarusian satellite saves millions of government money
“Belarusian government agencies have started using our shots much more actively. While import substitution was estimated at about $1 million as of 1 January, at present it is $4.6 million. Our government agencies and ministries have saved $3.6 million in January-September 2014 thanks to the shots taken by BKA,” he explained.

Belarus develops new space program
According to the scientist, Belarus is currently focused on several space areas, with one of them being the earth sensing technology. “We have certain experience in this area. Thanks to it we have become members of the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space,” Alexander Tuzikov said. Apart from that, today’s important issues include space communication, navigation and education in the area. The specialist also views the development of unified standards as important. “The standardization program will complete this year,” he said.

Another hi-tech park to open in Belarus
The park is to include a cluster in the field of nano-, femto-, bio- and information technologies of the 4th technological paradigm, and a center for collective use of research, testing and industrial facilities. The first thing to be done to implement the project is to elaborate the necessary legal framework. The new innovative platform is to be located in Minsk Oblast.

Scholars to discuss history education programs at BSU
The forum will be held as part of the celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the BSU Faculty of History. The participants will include leading historians from Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania, Germany, and China. “The scientists will discuss further development of the history and humanities education in the modern context, exchange their teaching experience, and develop measures to coordinate the scientific and educational processes,” the BSU said.

German company LTV to install biogas unit at dairy farm in Smorgon District
At the international investment forum that took place in Smorgon on 24 October on the sidelines of the 5th regional exhibition-fair Grodno Oblast's Northern Vector, the Smorgon District Executive Committee signed two protocols of intentions designed to promote all-round cooperation in manufacturing and alternative energy and to implement joint investment projects. The partners of local manufacturers will include the German company LTV and the Slovak company OMOSS spol.s r.o.

NASB, BRSM to join Eurasian Innovations project in Belarus
First Deputy Chairman of the NASB Presidium Sergei Chizhik took note of the sci-tech park BelBioGrad being developed in Belarus. According to the scientist, two innovation sites should unite personnel and technical resources. This will expedite the shifting from scientific research to the production of high-value-added products.
