Information about Lithuanian spent nuclear fuel difficult to obtain
It is still difficult to obtain information about the safety systems used to store the spent nuclear fuel of the Ignalina nuclear power plant. The statement was made by head of the Belarusian public association Ecological Initiative Yuri Solovyev during the online briefing hosted by BelTA’s press center on 20 December.

Agreement between Gosatomnadzor, Rostekhnadzor to strengthen nuclear security
An agreement between the Department for Nuclear and Radiation Safety of the Emergencies Ministry of Belarus (Gosatomnadzor) and the Federal Service for Ecological, Technological and Nuclear Supervision (Rostekhnadzor) will serve further enhancement of the level of nuclear and radiation safety in the energy sector of Belarus, Gosatomnadzor head Olga Lugovskaya said at the ceremony of signing the agreement on cooperation with Rostekhnadzor on 20 December, BelTA has learnt.

IAEA praises Gosatomnadzor-Rostekhnadzor cooperation
Cooperation between the Department for Nuclear and Radiation Safety of the Emergencies Ministry of Belarus (Gosatomnadzor) and the Federal Service for Ecological, Technological and Nuclear Supervision (Rostekhnadzor) has been hailed by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rostekhnadzor head Alexei Ferapontov told BelTA after the ceremony of signing a cooperation agreement with Gosatomnadzor of Belarus.

Belarus to import 30% less electricity in 2014
BelTA has learned that Belarus is going to consistently reduce the volume of electricity import every year starting in 2014. Some electricity will still be imported, including within the framework of mutual aid arrangements with Russia and the Baltic states, due to the technical necessity, for the sake of stable operation in the autumn-winter period, and due to repairs.

Belarus promised 23 million tonnes of Russian oil in 2014
The possibility of delivering 23 million tonnes of oil to Belarusian oil refineries in 2014 was confirmed during talks between the leadership of the Belarusian state petrochemical concern Belneftekhim and the Russian Energy Ministry, Belneftekhim’s press service told BelTA.

Belarus’ Emergencies Ministry, Rostechnadzor to ink cooperation agreement soon
The Belarusian Emergencies Ministry and the Federal Environmental, Industrial and Nuclear Supervision Service of Russia (Rostechnadzor) will sign a cooperation agreement before long, Olga Lugovskaya, Head of the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Department (Gosatomnadzor) under the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry, told mass media at the briefing held on 17 December to discuss the role of expert assessment, licensing and supervision in nuclear and radiation safety, BelTA has learnt.

Belarus, Russia to exchange information on nuclear safety
The Government of Belarus and the Government of Russia have signed the agreement providing for immediate notification about nuclear accidents and exchange of information about nuclear and radiation safety. The document was concluded by Emergencies Minister of Belarus Vladimir Vashchenko and First Deputy Director General of the Russian state corporation Rosatom Alexander Lokshin at the session of the Union State Council of Ministers that took place in Moscow on 13 December, BelTA has learnt.

Belarus, Russia extend agreement on oil duties for 2014
The Government of Belarus and the Government of Russia have extended the agreement regulating the payment and distribution of export duties imposed on crude oil and individual oil products exported from the territory Belarus outside the Customs Union. The initial agreement was signed on 9 December 2010. The protocol on extending the agreement was concluded at the session of the Union State Council of Ministers that took place in Moscow on 13 December, BelTA has learnt.

Belarus, Slovenia agree on cooperation in power industry
Belarus and Slovenia agreed to develop cooperation in the power industry. The relevant framework agreement has been signed in Minsk, Deputy Foreign Minister Elena Kupchina said opening the 3rd meeting of the intergovernmental Belarusian-Slovenian commission for trade, economic and sci-tech cooperation, BelTA has learnt.
